VoIP for VIPs

It isn't here yet, but there will come a time when even your grandmother (or people from her generation in general) will be using VoIP in their homes. Oh, they may not have the latest and greatest software or hardware, but the way VoIP is growing, it will reach critical mass at some point and most phones will be over a voice/data line.

You are not someone's grandparent, though. Or maybe if you are, you're a VIP grandparent. In either case, if you consider yourself VIP or VIP worthy, VoIP is a way you can treat yourself like a VIP on the cheap. And what better way to be a VIP is there?

The Service

While mere mortals are paying outrageous fees for long distance on their traditional phone plans, you can long distance dial to your heart's delight with the right VoIP plan. With this in mind, you'll want to think like a VIP and find the most bang for your buck.

Shopping around for the upper tier service plan at several providers will give you a good taste of what features are available at what cost. As a VIP, you'll want to go for the biggest package of perks probably.

Or at least a mid-range plan. If you're a talker (and as a VIP you probably are), the heftier service plan will most likely pay for itself over time in saved minutes on your cell or home phone line if you plan to keep that around too.

The Hardware
While there's a certain novelty to wearing the cheap headphones and mic that comes with most new computer systems, if you're serious about VoIP and your VIP status, you'll definitely want to look into the newest hardware available for Internet telephony.

If you really want to spend, some of the top of the line VoIP phone systems have a lot of great extras that make your phone use truly VIP-like. Does everyone have a handy LCD screen on their phone? One that also does other things?

You may spend a little more money going with top of the line equipment, but you can do so knowing that you're living the VIP lifestyle, with access to the latest and greatest VoIP gadgets and equipment. Even if you can't afford a VIP car or a VIP house, you're bound to be able to afford a VIP style of VoIP
equipment.

Practical Too

In all seriousness, VoIP is a great way to save a lot of money and consolidate some of your bills by cutting out a normal phone line. It isn't the answer to all the world's problems, but it's one way you can jump on the technology train and gain a benefit from being an early adopter.
