Find Something No One Else is Using

The solution to the issue of doing something new is to quite literally come up with something that has never been done before. Yes, that is an option, but this is a risky path that feels a little more like gambling to me than anything else. Maybe I’m just particularly squeamish, but I hate to gamble if it can be helped, especially with something like marketing.

Well then, what else can you do that’s new and interesting? Look outside your industry first, and you might start to get some ideas.

I can’t stress enough how varied real marketing actually is. There are so many different possibilities for you and I’m sure you haven’t even heard of half of them. This means that other people in your industry aren’t using them other, increasing your chances of getting ahead by latching onto something unique for your field.

With something like this you know this particular type of marketing has been successful in the past, because you can see the other companies who made use out of it. Say you noticed a company getting calendar printing done and handing them out to their customers. A lot of companies do this every year, and it can be a very nice way to get a good start on your marketing for the year.

Are people in your industry getting calendar printing done or has no one really thought about it? If you get some you can get a jump on the marketing potential and make a name for yourself in your field by trying out something different.

Maybe booklets just aren’t used very often in your industry. Do you know of a way to make them work for you? Take the time to start looking into what possibilities there are.

The best place to start would be another industry that’s similar to yours in the way it’s run. Take for instance if you’re a product based business you’ll want to look at other product based businesses first. Marketing meant for service industry jobs might not work too well with your particular company.

From there you can figure out why the marketing worked for them, and decide if you can replicate that success with your particular business and industry. Quite often a single marketing method can work well for a wide range of businesses, you just have to know how to get it to work.

Catching your competition by surprise can be enough to give you that needed edge, and remember too that people always gravitate towards new things. If you can give your customers something they haven’t seen before they’ll be much more likely to take interest. You don’t have to take a lot of risks to do something new. What’s old news to others might be just the thing to spice up your own marketing.
